I used to work in a building that was 80 years old. It is an agency that provides several social service programs. Prior to that the building was a funeral home, so there were always reports and rumors of strange happenings over the years. My supervisor would come to the office early every morning to do her tarot card reading when no one else was there. The rest of the small staff knew of this practice and since she was a fun-loving person, we thought we would spook her one morning. One of my coworkers placed a clock under her desk. Now this was no ordinary clock, this was one of those clocks that has an animal noise that sounds every hour on the hour. So the following morning our boss come in, goes through her normal routine of getting a reading in the morning, only this time while she was laying out the cards, a wolf noise comes blaring from under her desk! Apparently she thought the noise was coming from a spirit in her office, she ran out of building so fast and did not return for a couple of hours. We all laughed about it later, but that was end of her tarot card reading.

Congrats, Kimberly! We just wonder if you mystic boss already knew you were a winner.

“My job is one of the hardest and most dangerous jobs out there: I am a wild land firefighter. I fight forest fires in 102 degree weather carrying a 45-pound backpack up mountains. We hike for hours to get to a fire, carrying tools such as chainsaws, axes and rakes. At least four wild land firefighters die each year fighting fires that cover 1,000 acres or more. When we fight large fires, like those in California and Arizona, we are away from our families for weeks. We sustain injuries like burns from falling embers, cuts and bruises, and twisted ankles, but we have to continue to hike and dig line because there are no hospitals or doctors out in the woods. I also have a disability that makes the job very difficult for me: I am half deaf, which makes it hard to hear when multiple things are going on at once. I believe I have the hardest job out of everyone I know.”
