CNN has a great article on the first jobs of top CEOs. You might have more in common with a CEO then you think!

Having waited tables before, I can tell you that a bad restaurant experience is not always the servers fault. Kitchens are slow, hostesses over-seat you and before you know it, you’re slammed.

That being said – if you get a rude, uninterested server and your night is ruined because of the server alone – it might be OK to not leave a tip. But that’s got to be some horrible service, like border-line abusive.

Would I ever do it? No. But I can see how it might happen.

What about you? Have you ever not tipped?

Working or volunteering to clean up the oil spill is a wonderful thing to do, but be careful. Unfortunately there are all too many people willing to put up fake sites to take advantage of your good intention.

That’s why we’ve put together this list of legit state job boards and volunteer websites.

Here at SnagAJob.com, people devote much of their time to volunteering and being surrounded by super-volunteers can be very intimidating for new Snaggers.

Check out my thoughts on the subject (and how to get over the intimidation of volunteering) and while you’re there get to know a little bit more about itstartswith.us.

SHRM (the Society for Human Resource Management) holds a huge conference every year to meet with human resource professionals and the companies who work with them. It’s a grand event, full of fun people and interesting ideas.

This year, like we have for many years, we had a booth with a theme. This year – we chose a “stay cool” theme and packed up a Yeti, some fake snow and our inflatable cash booth and took them to San Diego (where the conference was help) to meet everyone.

Everyone had a great time – check out some of the pictures!

Before coming to SnagAJob I was working in a sea of bow-ties and suspenders. I was longing for a window (I worked in the basement for 4 years) and for the source of that funky smell down the hall to be discovered.

Guest post by Melissa Richardson

Before coming to SnagAJob I was working in a sea of bow-ties and suspenders. I was longing for a window (I worked in the basement for 4 years) and for the source of that funky smell down the hall to be discovered.

So, as you can imagine coming to work for SnagAJob on the second floor (with WINDOWS!!!) where denim flows free and bow-ties are only wore on Halloween was a nice change of pace.

Since starting at SnagAJob in March I have experienced many things, the most important being how to judge a margarita competition.

JUST KIDDING…..sort of.

While that was super important and a skill I’ll take it with me where ever I go, the most important to me has been the significant amount of professional and personal growth I have experienced in the short time I have been here. I am amazed daily at the team work everyone exercises here. I was and continue to be surprised that I can walk into any office (as a new person mind you), and I am treated like I have worked here for 10 years. My ideas, recommendations and concerns are treated with respect and importance. It is so refreshing to work for a company where each and every employee is hardworking, dedicated and passionate for one ultimate mission.

Okay, okay enough about the personal growth… you get it, I grew, I am growing and SnagAJob is a rockin company to work for, blah blah.. What you really want to know is who Melissa is really? What is her essence and being?

What make me me. (In no particular order, well maybe except the first one)

Wine.

Running.

Sandwiches.

Olive Oil. I eat it on everything.

People. Family. Friends. My Fiance is pretty cool too.

Game Nights. Apples to Apples anyone?

Karate chopping Excel formula’s into submission. I’d say I am a purple belt with dreams of being a black.

Google Search (I am a master searcher).

Dogs. Mine are the Coolest.

Travel.

Sundays. Too bad they come before Mondays.

Movies. All of them. Layered butter popcorn- go big or go home.

Did I say wine?
