There are 717,000 “discouraged workers” in the United States, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This doesn’t mean workers who are feeling depressed; you’re a discouraged worker if you’ve given up looking for work because you don’t think there are any jobs out there for you.
Don’t give up! If you can’t find anything in your field, think about skills you have that might apply to different types of jobs. If you have any experience managing or mentoring coworkers, look for management jobs. (These pay well, too.) If you have a knack for getting along with difficult customers, check out customer service jobs.
