Working from home

Don’t get scammed! How to find real work from home jobs

Who doesn’t want to work from home? No commute. No dress code. No coughing coworkers. Just you, the computer and a nice cup of coffee. Ahhh.

Unfortunately, scammers realize how enticing work from home jobs sound. That’s why the Internet is littered with ads for easy work from home jobs, all promising big paychecks in no time flat. Very few of these jobs, however, are as good as they seem to be. Here are a few warning signs of fake work at home jobs:

  • Promises that you’ll get rich quick
  • Work that sounds unbelievably simple, like envelope stuffing, data entry or assembling crafts
  • Claims that you don’t actually have to do any work to get paid

That’s not to say that there aren’t legitimate work from home jobs out there, however. If you’re interested in a specific job, do your homework first. Google the company name and find out what other people are saying about it. Call or email the company (a legitimate company should have easy-to-find contact information) and ask questions, like “Do I have to invest any money to get stared?” and “What exactly does the work entail?”

SnagAJob.com screens the work from home jobs on our site to ensure you won’t get scammed. Some do require an initial investment, however, and in general, the amount of money you can make is directly related to how much time and energy you invest.

I see working from home jobs becoming much more widespread and accepted (not as scams) The recognition of rising commute costs by employers should help them see the light. Collaborative online work environments help make progress tracking and meetings possible as well…even for the non-savvy.
