Our working moms contest was a huge success. You made us laugh, you made us gasp, and most of all, you made us appreciate working mothers who deal with crazy situations on a daily basis. Meet this month’s winner, Susan F, who proves that children and telephones just don’t mix.
I started a florist business when I was 19 years old. I was based out of a building on my parent’s property for several years. After getting married and later building a home, my husband and I decided that I would continue to operate the business part-time while raising our two sons. I did quite a bit of business over the phone before we had a computer and Internet services. I never knew who would be calling and did my best to answer the phone every time. There would be customers, wholesalers for floral and craft supplies along with business contacts calling on a daily basis. One day the phone rang while I was occupied in the bathroom. I heard my precious little boy’s voice as he answered the call with a cheerful, “Hello”. I was at the sink washing my hands. I held my breath and listened, suddenly mortified as the five year old piped up happily, “Nah, she’s just pooping.” – Susan F.
