Red carpet treatment at the workplace
The day when potential workers are supposed to be stoked about free uniforms is long gone. After all, it’s not like you’re going to wear a grease-stained visor and elastic waistband work pants to prom or your best friend’s wedding, right? And those checkered suspenders and giant “flare” buttons aren’t going to fetch more than an awkward glance at a garage sale.
These days, companies are digging a little deeper to entice potential workers. Here are a couple examples of how employers are rewarding their hourly employees with cool discounts and benefits:
Boredom busters: Looking to get out but always low on cash? Maybe you should consider a job with built-in free entertainment. AMC Theatres workers get to catch free flicks, and AMF employees get to master the 7-10 split without coughing up any cash.
Meal deals: Many restaurants offer workers discounted prices on meals. For example, Domino’s Pizza gives its employees a whopping 50 percent of all pies. (If you deliver a pizza to yourself, it’s your call on whether to tip).
Fresh air: Not all perks and benefits are attached to tangible goods. For example, many people consider getting to work shotgun with Mother Nature all day to be a privilege in itself. The army of washers and scrubbers at FISH Window Cleaning never has to worry about feeling claustrophobic….
These are just a few examples. Now we want to hear from you. What were some of the cool perks and benefits that have drawn you to jobs? Does an employee discount make you more likely to take a job? Send us a comment below!
