Job search cheats revealed!

Job Search CheatsYou know how every once in a while, the writers of your favorite sitcoms get bored and do a retrospective episode? OK, maybe this happened more in the ‘80s and ’90s. These were basically 30-minute montages involving loud “Cosby” sweaters and even louder synthesizer drumbeats.

Well, this blog entry is basically the equivalent of when those lazy TV writers’ occasionally called in sick to play video games.

On a serious note, we do boast a number of cool features on SnagAJob.com that don’t get enough attention. And we want to share them with you again here. While we won’t play a cheesy Rembrandts’ song while you check out these job search tools, we’ll still get that terrible “I’ll be there for You” song stuck in your head. Enjoy!

Come unwind at Off the Clock

Job seeker community section launch The gang from “Beverly Hills 90210” chilled at The Peach Pit when the going got tough. The ladies from “The Hills” crash at mommy and daddy’s million dollar vacation pads when money can’t buy happiness. Everyone needs somewhere to hang out and relax. To reflect and move forward. And now America’s hourly workers and job seekers have Off the Clock. Think of it as yoga for your paycheck. No bull: Hourly workers can hang tough

Hourly workers can hang toughAt SnagAJob.com, we’ve found that one of the best parts about hourly and part-time jobs is that they allow workers the flexibility to pursue their passions - whether it be singing in a band, Origami, model trains, Jazzercise or even bull riding. Yes, bull riding.

If Lo Jones can tame a bull for eight seconds, then we have no doubt she wasn’t bucked off the chair in her recent job interview:

Dear SnagAJob.com,

I did not know y’all existed until I saw a lady next to me in the library using your website. My time was up at the library since they only allow a certain amount of time to use the PCs. I came in the next day and logged into SnagAJob.com website and I absolutely loved it. I’m not the savviest bull riding cowgirl when it comes to computers BUT this website is “sick” (means cool). You have something here and when I go to my interview for UPS I will have that part-time job. I’ve been unemployed since 04/2006 and have kept my FAITH, as well as my great attitude, in God that I will find something. Thanks for this website and y’all will be informed of my success.

Regards,
Lo Jones

Boomer job seeker: “I got a job!”

55-plus job search success storyEvery once in a while, SnagAJob.com likes to post a job seeker success story in this very blog.

Not only do we love to celebrate job seekers’ accomplishments, but we also like to offer up proof to all those other job seekers out there that SnagAJob.com does work, whether you’re in the middle of a 55-plus job search or a teen job search.

Dear SnagAJob.com,

I just wanted to thank all who are involved in your enterprise. I receive e-mails from you all the time regarding possible positions that I may be able to qualify for. I have filled out many applications however up until now I had very few responses. They all said thank you for applying and that was the end of that. But this time I expanded my ZIP code and saw a lot more opportunities.

I filled out an application one night and I received a call the very next day to come in for an interview. I went in today and was hired on the spot. I just wanted to thank you for being there and posting available jobs. I was really close to my wits end when this came through. I was getting down to the last of my money. This new job is going to be ideal for me as I’m a much older person and needed a sit-down job and this miracle happened because you were there…

Sincerely,
Shirley S.

And our first free T-shirt goes to…

Free T-shirtA few blogs ago, we announced that we’d be giving out free T-shirts to SnagAJob.com job seekers who sent us the most compelling success stories. We’re not talking “compelling” in a daytime soap opera kind of way - we don’t need to know about your former nanny dating your grandpa and fighting over Great Uncle Teddy’s inheritance. We’re talking about the kind of “compelling” that puts a smile on your face and a paycheck in your hand.

Here’s a sweet little ditty from our first T-shirt winner:

I just want to thank you for your services and for the chance you gave me to find a cool job locally. I had tried other sites to find a job…but I’d had quite a hard time achieving that.

My name is Takashi M., and thanks to SnagAJob.com I’m a Merchandise Associate/Cashier at Marshalls in Worcester, Mass. I love the job because it not only was something I wanted, but in addition to that, I get a feeling of satisfaction from helping others find what they need and making their day. In fact, when I make their day, they make mine, too!

The atmosphere is so much fun and the environment is cool and laid back.

Thanks again!
Takashi M.

You, yes, you could be the next free T-shirt winner. Send your SnagAJob.com success stories here . And read more heart-touching stories right here.

Free T-shirts!

Free T-shirt!It’s an undisputed scientific fact that 75 percent of all the T-shirts you own were free. Some are frayed pieces of cotton that you’ve been holding onto since sixth grade field day. Others you’ve worked hard to earn – running in 5Ks, playing on work softball squads and eating 36 chicken wings in 10 minutes (That explains the wing sauce stains). Heck, you probably don’t even know where you got some of your T-shirts.

At SnagAJob.com, we feel that you should rarely pay for a T-shirt. And we’re here to help.

If you get a job through SnagAJob.com, we want to hear about it. And starting today, if we feature your story in our new job seeker success story section, we’ll send you a cool new SnagAJob.com T-shirt.

Just think: If you’re selected, you can finally throw away that “I’m with Stupid” T-shirt your best buddy bought you years ago.

Send your job seeker success stories to igotajob@snagajob.com .

Toot your own horn, please (And ours, too)

One of the best parts about working at SnagAJob.com is hearing from the job seekers we’ve hooked up with new gigs. When we get these messages, we circulate them around the office for all to read. Some workers simply tell us how finding a new hourly job through SnagAJob.com was super convenient, while others describe how their new job has truly been a life-changing experience. Some of these are really, really, touching. We’re not afraid to admit it – a few of us have to break out the tissues.

Here’s a cool story we recently received from proud Wal-Mart distribution center employee Danielle Pilon, of Tobyhanna, Pa.:

“The job is fun, but it’s hard work. I make nearly 17 dollars an hour, and I work with a great group of people. It’s great to work somewhere where you know that you are working hard, but at the same time can laugh and have a great time while you’re working….The people are friendly and outgoing, work and safety oriented, and value your opinion. If you are willing to bust your butt for them, they are willing to give you some pretty hefty incentives. Bonuses happen biweekly; you can win up to an extra thousand dollars just for working safely. Not to mention that different departments can win pizza parties and prizes like iPods and stereos, just for making production for the month or the quarter. The management surpasses any I have ever worked for; they are knowledgeable in their field, and have only positive influences to hand out. Wal-Mart also has a policy for your days off…don’t worry about work! They will go to any effort to make sure you have a good weekend, so if something bad happens on a Friday, they will sort it out before you leave, so that it’s not on your mind all weekend. Very beneficial!

Thank you SnagAJob.com, for suggesting this job for me, because without this job I would not have been able to buy my new car, and buy my new house…or even get married! Thank you again so much!”

We’ll continue sharing similar stories in SnagABlog, and we encourage anyone who’s found an hourly job through SnagAJob.com to please send us the details.
